My Thoughts and Life Experiences.
We have discussed using Craigslist in the past and I wanted to give some updates. It is more difficult now to get multiple ads posted on Craigslist than it was in the past. Now you have to have an account set up and it won’t let you post more than 3 times a day.
What is the solution? You can set up multiple accounts. They will need to verify your phone number so you can use your cell, office and home phone. I would recommend doing these following things to protect yourself from getting your posts ghosted.
Post 3 times a day, make sure your Craigslist posts are very much different each time. Use different computers if possible. Always use a solid call to action in the details area with your url.
The reason I like Craigslist so much is that it allows you to post in your area and generate fresh responsive leads that are linked directly to you and not purchased through some lead company that sells them off to a few other people.
To find out more tips on how to post on Craiglist pick up your copy of Craigslist Quick Tricks for $7 and find out how to not get your ads ghosted and how to troubleshoot if they are go to:

It isn’t necessarily safer to be self-employed, but it is much safer to have a “successful” online business than it is to have a corporate job. The difference between an online business and being self-employed is varied.
Many jobs like being owning your own chiropractic clinic, being a dentist and running a body shop while you are self-employed your shop is open certain hours during the day and without you being there working there is no income. However, with an online business the shop is open at all times, in particular one that delivers digital products or one that is involved with a company that ships your product for you. So while one type of self-employment is still risky another type is not. When your money (investment, real estate, etc.) is working for you or your website is working for you without your continued direct involvement then this is solid job security. Especially when you are dealing with the kind of online business that does not drop off when the economy does. You see your online business is world-wide without any local limitations and time is not a factor. Someone can go to your web site and purchase your product or service any time any day regardless of whether you are in Tahiti or in front of your computer.
Here are 3 reasons why it is safer to be self-employed with an internet business.
- There is no job security. You can be fired for one mistake that you made. If the company decides it doesn’t need your division anymore it could lay you off. Then of course what do you do? You go get another job which has the exact same potential. Exciting isn’t it?
- Your income is based solely on your own continued efforts and faithfulness to showing up everyday. If something were to happen that left you incapable of doing either of these your usefulness to the company is no more While you can get income from disability or social security it is no way to live permanently. Who would want to rely on the government paying them??
- There is no time freedom when you are employed. You have to work specific hours and you don’t get paid when you are not working. Except of course those brief times that you get to enjoy your vacations every year. Woo hoo 3 weeks to do what I love to do. Why would you want the supposed “security” of a job when with an online business that pays you can get paid when you are sleeping, eating at nice restaurants and traveling.
Of course this is not to say that having a home business is easy. It takes hard work, at first especially, when you are learning the ins-and-outs of internet marketing and developing the skills that you need to succeed. However, once you have a good system for yourself in place you can spend less time with it. The most important thing for you to realize that this internet marketing is not a get rich quick scheme it’s a genuine line of work that people make real money doing. You will probably be working at your full-time job when as you are developing the skills it takes to succeed. There’ll be times when you get frustrated and want to give up, but don’t…keep working at it and learning new skill sets.

One of the biggest struggles I have had since starting my home business is balancing out the time with my family, time working and time playing. It really bothers my wife that my work on the internet never seems to stop. I am constantly tinkering with my autoresponders, websites, blog and always learning something new.
So, with that said, remember how important it is for you to manage your time properly. You got into the home business arena because you wanted more time with your family and more income right? Well, what ends up happening is that if you pursue it properly you begin to become extremely passionate about your business and well you should be. However, you have to remember this, you are an entrepreneur. You are not to be a workaholic and you are not out to create a job for yourself. You got involved because you wanted to create leverage and learn to make money while you sleep, while you eat at nice restaurants and while you travel the world.
So what is the solution to the madness of working way too much on your business. The secret is to manage your time properly and to know when to outsource your work. You want to focus on doing the things that generate revenue…what generates revenue for your business? Taking orders right? So, spend time initially setting up systems that send you leads automatically without a lot of involvement from you. Whether that be a blog with an opt-in pop up or a capture page advertised on Google Adwords, etc. get the system in place that gets you the leads. Spend time calling and interviewing those leads that are automatically coming to you each and everyday.
As far as content for your blog goes…outsource it. You can use elance, mturk, etc. for this and get your blog posts written on the cheap and they will do a lot to get you traffic.
Secondly, if you are using Facebook and other social media services to drive traffic to your site outsource that work as well. Find a nephew or a cousin or another relative to manage your friending on Facebook and to manage your Group and Business Pages. You can also teach them to manage your posting to Squidoo or Hubpages. This can all be done on the cheap since it would be such easy work for them.
Then when your business gets big enough you can hire a Virtual Assistant to do a lot of that work for you.
Remember, you are a business owner and an entreprenuer, once your business begins generating enough revenue you do the part of the business where you cannot be replaced, but have a virtual assistant do most everything else and hire someone to do your writing for you.
I wanted to write this so you get out of the mindset that you have to do it all. You can find balance by outsourcing your work and if you can’t do it immediately pick one outlet to generate your leads, master it, generate some revenue with it then outsource it and move on to another tactic.
Enjoy!

PS-Why on earth would anyone want to work a job when you could have a home business? Is it safer to have a job? NO WAY. Is the pay better? You’ve got to be kidding! I applaude you in taking the step to own a business. If you have not as of yet started a home business. Take a look at this as an option. I LOVE working with this company. http://thatsmyjetstream.net

It is very important that you approach your leads properly and with the right mindset. Never approach them with the thought that “I really need to sponsor someone.” If you have that thought in mind you won’t sponsor any of the right prospects. You have to come with the mindset that you are doing them a favor by calling them. They have the opportunity to change their lives based upon this conversation.
Here’s an example of poor posture…would it be ok if I sent you some information? Leaders don’t ask they tell their prospects what the next step is and how you want to proceed.
Don’t give a sales pitch to your leads. Your job is to interview them by asking certain questions to see if they are someone that you want to work with. First position yourself like this with the opening statement. “Hi John, this is Jason DeMars. I’m calling you because you requested some information from one of my company websites about making money from home. How can I help you?”
A lot of times they will respond in an obtuse way. Keep them on point by saying…”you are still looking to generate income from home correct?”
Then follow up with the question “why are you looking to generate income from home?”
If at any point they are avoiding your questions or you can tell they are not the right people tell them that and let them go.
Here are some other questions to ask.
- What are you currently doing for income?
- How long have you been doing that type of work?
- Do you enjoy what you are doing?
- Have you ever worked from home in the past?
- What type of income are you looking to generate from home?
- How much time each week would you have to dedicate to building your business?
- How much are you planning to invest initially in your business?
The whole time you are speaking with them you are listening to find out if they are someone you want to work with. You are acting as a consultant not a salesperson.
If they are someone you want to continue on with then tell them that. “John, it sounds like you are someone that I could possibly work with. Do you have a pen handy? My number is 555-555-5555. Could you repeat that back to me? What I am going to do is send you an email with a few links to websites for you to view the details about our company and what you’ll be doing to build your business. If you decide you want to go forward in the process call me back at the number I gave you.”
You are not needy here…the people that are looking to work with you are looking to make a change and you are there to assist them in the process. All those questions and each part of the call is to position yourself as a leader. You want to make so many calls for such a long period of time that you master this process. This is how all successful network marketers develop the proper leadership skills. You will be shaky at doing this at first, but in time you will learn how to do it and become a success if you don’t give up.

I want to delve further into the subject of marketing on Facebook. In the last week I have generated a ton of traffic and 29 leads using these methods on Facebook.
When marketing on Facebook remember that your profile page should not be a place filled with advertising for your business. However, your Facebook profile is a place for you to express yourself. So if you are excited about your company or business of course you will have information about it on your page. You’ll want a link to your blog or a squidoo page you have created in your work info area. Then that middle page should link to your capture page that you are ultimately promoting.
If you have a personal testimony about how your product has changed your life or how your business has changed your lifestyle then include a video on your profile about it.
We also discussed creating groups and pages for your business. Make sure to become a member yourself and a fan of your page. In doing this they will appear on your profile.
Facebook groups are awesome because the members of your groups have the name of the groups they are members of posted on their profile page and the profile page generates a lot of traffic. The reason it generates a ton of traffic is that people just love to surf on profile pages and see pictures and learn little tidbits about other people. A few great features of groups are that you can easily invite your friends to become a part of them and members of the group can easily invite their friends to become members.
Facebook pages are an easy way for you to brand your business. You can also send a message to all members and unlike groups it gives you the opportunity to add HTML, Flash and other Facebook applications. However, your fans are not able to invite their friends to become fans of your page.
The notes and photos features on your Facebook profile page are great for you to talk about events in your life…exciting trips you’ve taken because of your business, the lifestyle you can enjoy because of it, etc. are great options for you to attract people to your home business. Have fun with these and show people your real personality through these options. The more you update on the page the more you will be visible in your friends news feed on their profile.
The key is first to find as many friends as possible. If you are not careful you can be reported for friending spam. You can have your account shut down for doing that. So be careful and make sure to always include some kind of message as to why you would consider adding them.
The best rule is to follow is to be open and honest on Facebook…don’t be tricky and don’t just put garbage ads up…also remember when you post information present it as and have the focus in your mind…”how can my offer benefit those who will see this ad?” Never approach writing an ad or posting information with the idea that you are going to make a lot of money. It will never work. Always write benefit laden content. Give away your best content to attract your prospects to you.

Do you want to get more free traffic to your website or blog from the search engines, especially Google? Do you love the idea of building your site and just watching the traffic come in totally free??
I know that is what I am striving for…absolutely free traffic coming into my site from the search engines and from other sites. It is really the holy grail of internet marketing isn’t it? The absolute ideal is to build a site and then here comes the traffic, but it doesn’t necessarily work that way does it? There are some keys to doing that and a few simple rules to follow. This is not intended to be a technical article on SEO. Instead it’s intended to give you a basic idea on how to get traffic to your site from the search engines.
There are so many gurus out there teaching you how to get incoming links to your site by gaming the system. Let me tell you right now that it won’t work in the long run. Short term you will have some success, but Google especially strives to give the people that use it’s search engine the best content that lines up with what they are searching for. They are going to slap down sites that are gaming the system by generating their own incoming links all over the place without providing good content.
The biggest tip I can give you is provide good content that readers will love and keeps them coming back for more. What a secret, huh? That will do more than anything to drive that search engine traffic to your site. Why? First things first is that the search engines strive to reward good content. When you are writing on subjects that people want to learn about and you write well it keeps them coming back. If they like it they’ll link to it in their blog, on facebook, in del.icio.us, reddit and various other social bookmarking sites. They’ll write about it in squidoo or hubpages and you’ll automatically get all kinds of incoming links without having to do it yourself.
There is nothing better than you can do than to provide great content that helps your readers. When I am writing I am thinking, “what can I write that will help me readers?” I am not thinking, what can I write that will make my readers want to buy something. Of course I ultimately want to make money from this blog, but without traffic I will never make a dime and without great content that will help my readers I won’t ever get any traffic.
If you feel challenged by the idea of writing good content that will genuinely help your readers than I suggest a few things; first, read good copy and content from other writers. Secondly, start writing a post on your blog every single day. Well, I don’t write on Sunday because it is a day of rest and worship for me, but I do write at least once the rest of the days and it definitely sharpens my skills. I am by no means a great writer, but I can see improvement as the weeks go by.
If you want your page to be optimized for the search engines this is the long term way to do it. Don’t expect results overnight, but if you provide the kind of content your target market loves they’ll keep coming back and they’ll get all their friends and colleagues to visit your blog as well.

There has been some very good response to Web 2.0 Mistakes. Thank you for that. There has also been a few questions that I’m sure others have as well. Here is a response from one reader.
“I took your advice…well some of it. I read your blog and I left my blog, myspace and youtube url on my profile. I slimmed it down by taking off 6 sites. Now that I think about it…that is a pitiful shame.”
I understand how you feel. You did all that work and you want to capitalize on it through your facebook profile. However, there is a better way. Facebook gives us the great option to design a “page” for our business where instead of getting friends you get “fans” for your business page. Of course as a personal profile you want to become a member of your business page and that in turn will be posted on your profile.
Again, the same rule applies on your business page. Post valuable, content driven information that gives a valuable service to your fans and readers and attracts more of them to you.
On the business page you can post events, videos, notes, start a discussion board and fans can post reviews on the page. So add items galore on your business page (as long as the content is valuable) and you won’t at all be considered a spammer.
You can post a link to one of your business sites on your personal profile, but don’t overdue it. I would recommend connecting it to a blog or an inbetween site that directs traffic to your main site.
Another option for you on Facebook is to create a group for your business. It is also a great forum for members to post ideas, offer feedback and for you to share content with the members.
Enjoy!

This mistake violates the very first rule of Web 2.0 and I see MULTITUDES of people doing it and it aggrivates me and I know thousands of others to no end. This mistake will absolutely get you nowhere and it will in fact do the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. In fact it violates one of the main rules of web 2.0 and it will result in your website being slapped down in the search engines and give you personally a bad reputation.
What is this mistake I bet you are wondering???
It’s posting, writing articles and sending out messages simply for the sake of advertising or selling. It won’t work. Web 2.0 allows a greater deal of interaction and doing this will get a lot of negative feedback. Not only that but people love web 2.0 because they don’t want to get pitched on some product or service. When you post your website simply for the sake of advertising the result is you are considered a spammer.
So what is the solution to the problem because we all want exposure for our business right?
The solution is to provide something of value to when you post. Make sure first you are approaching your target market…for instance, never advertise on your personal profile on facebook…that will always backfire. Secondly, when you are approaching them give them something valuable. Don’t just post your website or send out an advertisement for your network marketing company. People hate that. I hate that and if you are honest so would you. The Golden Rule works well in everything, but remember it in web 2.0…”do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
Give away something valuable to them and approach them as a servant giving them help and assistance. If you do this you will in due time receive.
So don’t be a spammer…just posting garbage…provide value and if you have to title it by something make sure the title is latent with value for your target market.

You have come to this blog because you want to learn how to generate your own leads and I applaud you for that. You absolutely should learn how to do that. It’s the wave of the future and it is the way most successful network marketers do it today. You want to generate at a minimum of 20 leads each and every day and get to a place where those leads are actually calling you rather than you calling them.
The way we make money in this industry is not through generating leads or calling leads it is by taking orders. So obviously you want to spend most of your time taking orders. So you want to develop a system while you are generating leads that builds a relationship with them, builds you as a person of value in their eyes and gets them to the place that they want to contact you and get started.
However, I don’t want you to forget one thing. You absolutely must know how to handle yourself on the phone. The only way you can do that is through repetetive practice, day in and day out for months and months at a time. You can’t just be calling on a few people here and there. You absolutely need a multitude of people to call so that you are not in poverty mode when you call them, that is in a needy position. You want to approach them in a position of authority and strength. With that end we have a training coming out soon that will teach you “Blackbelt Recruiting” and make sure to be looking forward to that in the coming weeks. It is absolutely an awesome training that I have benefited from immensely.
While you are learning to generate your magic number of 20 leads per day on your own through various methods purchase some cheap leads and get LOTS of them and call LOTS of them and get really good on the phone. Who cares if other people have contacted the leads already? You shouldn’t. You are a leader and that will not stop you from connecting with people and building value in their eyes and getting them to your presentation and letting your autoresponder follow up with them.
I will get Blackbelt Recruiting to you as soon as it is available!
